The announcement came after an emergency meeting of the Executive Council on Thursday, March 14, 2024. During the meeting, the Council deliberated on the report submitted by the search committee, which was chaired by Vice President Mark Addo.

As part of the agreement, the GFA has reached out to Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund to secure Otto Addo's release for the coaching role. Addo is expected to sign a 34-month contract with the option for a further 24 months, signaling a long-term commitment to the development of Ghanaian football.

President Simeon-Okraku expressed confidence in Otto Addo's capabilities, citing his exceptional performance during the interview process. "Otto was exceptional in the interview process and was rated highly by the search committee, hence the decision," President Simeon-Okraku stated on ghanafa.org.

The president further elaborated on the thoroughness of the selection process, highlighting the caliber of candidates who applied for the position. Despite the presence of several qualified individuals, Otto Addo stood out due to his vision and strategic approach to transforming the team.

"The Committee was overly satisfied with Otto's performance, for which reason he was recommended to the Executive Council for approval," President Simeon-Okraku added.

In a significant development, Borussia Dortmund has granted permission for Otto Addo to join the Ghanaian national team for the March international window. Following his duties with the Black Stars, Addo will return to Borussia Dortmund to complete his obligations before officially assuming his role as head coach in May.
